As if my obsession with all things see-through/plastic couldn't get any greater! Blurred Lines is my new fav in terms of outfits in music videos. I know, I know, it's causing controversy over the alleged sexism, but
TO HELL WITH THAT!
All I care about is those transparent plastic shorts, crop tops, sky high wedges and gold chains.
It's hard to find high quality stills so here's the video for all those who want to take a look!
The year is 2000-and-something, and my pre-teen self is about to embark on a love affair with music videos. Ok, so some of the songs were not works of musical genius, but the fashion was a revelation; you can wear stockings and corsets and HOW much make-up? Although in hindsight not the most age appropriate outfits to be admiring, here are my favourites from the new millennium.
Since leaving uni I have spent the last few months living in and out of a handbag. Not being much of a planner can be a disadvantage, so I have to be prepared for all occasions - who knew you could end up doing so much over one weekend!?! (I even ended up playing croquet and drinking pimms...)
But thankfully, all of these peculiar situations I find myself in have allowed me to practise and perfect the art of travelling light. Here are my summer necessities...
I always take a few accessories to change my look from day to night - earrings, scarf and a bright nail polish normally do the trick! - disposable camera, a good read (currently Fear and Loathing which I am loving), my make-up bag and Anna Sui perfume, some pretty knickers, cat eye shades and dry shampoo, which if you haven't discovered yet then you seriously missing out!
Spring is officially over! Here's what was inspiring me during the April showers... Top; unknown, Kate Spade S/S 13 Bottom; saltycotton @flickr, Moschino S/S 13
Getting through the British Spring in style is often a
struggle, especially as April showers can go on for months. So it comes as a
great relief to see that plastic raincoats are on the agenda for this Spring/Summer.
Whether it was cropped capes at Burberry Prorsum, or shirt style at Charlotte
Ronson, it seems that plastic is fantastic this season.
From top; Burberry Prorsum S/S 2013, Charlotte Ronson S/S 2013, Valentino S/S 2013, Louis Vuitton, Ginta Lapina for Antidote Magazine (the 'animal issue'), Abbey Lee Kirshaw for i-D Magazine (wearing Sonia Rykiel), Lie Sang Bong S/S 13, Jeremy Scott Fall 2011, Jean Shrimpton modelling for Lambretta scooters in the Sixties, and Rose McGowan as Amy Blue in The Doom Generation (the inspiration for this post!)
The phrase 'style icon' is not often proceeded with the name 'Jimi Hendrix', especially when looking back at the stylish ladies & gents of the 60s/70s. But Jimi Hendrix was one snappy dresser; psychedelic print shirts in a magnitude of acid - bright colours, fringed jackets, embroidered kimonos and stone-wash jeans were just a few of his staples. Accessorised with a wide brimmed fedora and a clashing silk scarf, Jimi was is one of the best (yet one the most underrated) style icons of the 20th century.
I have always been a fan of orange hair, and am finally going to brave it and dye mine this weekend! I've been red for a while now so I am really looking forward to the change, even though I'm scared that I won't be able to handle life as a ginger! Here is some marmalade haired inspiration for you...
